So many things seem important to tackle!

I’m learning (great coaching) to prioritize tasks within limited parameters. But it is exhausting sometimes when many things hit at once and they require more than one or two skills:

being on time, keeping mouth shut until brain has focused on situation, keeping commitments, predicting time needed to accomplish a task, keeping finances straight, keeping a cool head when no one else “gets” what you’re saying, keeping organized…..

Sometimes one day or even one hour just require so much effort in so many difficult areas. How do you just make the world go away for a while so you can figure out how to simplify what seems so simple to all around you?

Or to attempt to simplify: how does one prioritize learning new skills/methods when so many are needed all at once?

And is it possible to make it as “Simple” as prioritizing tasks for a hands-on project?

Hello! I have a question about med’s and managing where I should be. I am currently a full time college student, mother of 4 and wife to a soldier currently deployed to Iraq. I recently went back to college this past fall semester to major in history. I was actually “officially” diagnosed a little more than 4 years ago while stationed in Georgia. My doctor put me back on Adderall just prior to the fall semester. My question about my medicine is this; At first when they put me back on it my milligrams were 20 per day. I cannot take Adderall XR because it makes me shake almost immediately after taking it. So they switched me to the regular release. Recently I had felt that it wasn’t working the way it had before. My focus has been way off! So I asked the doctor to increase my dosage. Well they increased it by 10 more milligrams a day but I know it hasn’t been enough. I can tell the difference. I tried taking another 10 milligrams of my meds and that seemed to help (totalling 40 mg). I don’t want to seem like some crazy junky to the doctors asking to increase my dosage but I know that 30 mg is just not enough. Any advise would be greatly appreciate on how to approach my situation. My daughter has ADHD and takes Concerta. Her dosage is 36mg in the morning before breakfast and 18mg after lunch at school. She is 10 years old. We increased her dosage during her last school year. So I thought it must mean that if my focus is not where it should be on the prescribed dosage, as hers was not, then I should be raised. Please let me know if this is a correct assumption? Thank you in reading my very lengthy email.

  3. Hi Cherlene,
I’m sorry for the long delay in replying to your post.

Pleased be advised that I am a coach not a physician. Because of that I am not really qualified to advise you on prescription issues.

With that said, 30 mg is a lower end dose of adderall. If you think it is not helping you you could ask your doctor to raise your dosage. In many cases if a physician isn’t comfortable with dealing with ADHD they will prescribe on the low end. If you think that might be the case please give me a call at 847.957.1343 and I’ll try to help you find a doctor who specializes in treating ADHD.
